Standing six feet and nine inches tall (not including skates), Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara is the tallest man to ever play in the NHL. The stick that he uses is the longest that is legally permitted. His skates are big enough to house a human family. If he were to stand on his tiptoes, he would be in danger of smacking his head on roof of the arena.

He’s big, is my point. It takes a lot to knock Chara off his skates, but Winnipeg’s James Wright found a way at the end of a strong shift in which he also had a golden scoring opportunity. Wright isn’t a small man himself at 6’ 4, but he still had to get a bit lucky in order to catch Chara off guard and send him flying into the boards. Chara fell awkwardly, and this hit could have been ugly if the players had been a bit closer to the boards - but the giant Bruin was fine, and play continued.
