Early in the third period of a game which the Blackhawks were leading 3-1, Chicago winger Marian Hossa was the victim of a startlingly blatant elbow to the back of the head from Vancouver's Jannik Hansen.
Canucks vs. Blackhawks: Marian Hossa suffers brutal headshot
The Chicago star took an elbow to the back of the head from Jannik Hansen in the third period of Tuesday night’s game.
Any hard hit on Hossa makes Chicago fans cringe, as he has missed significant stretches with injuries in the past. Hossa was hospitalized last year after a hit from the Phoenix Coyotes' Raffi Torres in the playoffs which earned Torres a lengthy suspension. He has also missed time with shoulder injuries in the past.
Hossa went to the dressing room after the hit, and will likely be evaluated for signs of a concussion or other serious injury.
Hansen received a two minute penalty for roughing on the play.
This moment will likely add more fuel to the fire between these two rivals, as the two western conference powers have clashed repeatedly in the playoffs and regular season over the past few years.
