Ryan Murphy recalled on emergency basis by Hurricanes

Defenseman Ryan Murphy has been recalled by the Carolina Hurricanes from the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League.

The Carolina Hurricanes have recalled defenseman Ryan Murphy from the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League, according to an announcement by general manager Jim Rutherford on the team's website Thursday morning.

The recall is on an emergency basis and the club has also announced that forward Tim Brent has been placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Feb. 14.

Murphy has played in 46 games with Kitchener this season and has accumulated eight goals and 31 assists for a total of 39 points. As of Thursday morning, he is leads the team’s defense corps in goals and points, while being tied for the team-lead in assits.

Over the course of 220 regular season games with the Rangers, Murphy has compiled 51 goals and 160 assits for 211 points.

Originally selected with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2011 NHL Draft by the Hurricanes, Murphy attended training camp with the team this season before being returned to the OHL. He has yet to make his NHL debut.
