Panthers vs. Penguins preview: 1st meeting between teams this season

The Pittsburgh Penguins (11-6-0) will host the Florida Panthers (5-7-4) at Consol Energy Center on Friday night.

It will mark the first of three meetings between the two teams this season.

Coincidentally, both teams will be entering the night after scoring five goals against the Philadelphia Flyers in their most recent match. Pittsburgh played their Atlantic Division rival on Wednesday night in a nationally televised game on NBC. Despite their high offensive output, the Penguins and goaltender Tomas Vokoun allowed the Flyers to score six goals, ultimately losing the game 6-5.

The Panthers might have been the beneficiaries of the epic battle, as the team didn't face much resistance from Philadelphia on Thursday. Despite the Flyers carrying the play for portions of the game, Florida managed to produce three quick goals in the first period and forced Ilya Bryzgalov from the cage after scoring their fourth.

Prior to the win, the Panthers had lost their five previous games. Pittsburgh will be entering the night as winners in three of their last four.

Friday’s game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., ET and will be televised on RDS2, FS-F and ROOT.
