Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith estimates that he will miss 3-4 weeks due to an AC sprain in his right shoulder, according to Ansar Kahn of MLive.com.

The Detroit Red Wings already depleted defense corps lost another man on Monday when Brendan Smith estimated that he would miss 3-4 weeks due to injury.

The injury was sustained in the team's 4-2 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night. General manager Ken Holland stated that Smith would be examined by a doctor on Monday and that the initial projection was that the 23-year-old defenseman would miss 10-14 days.
With Smith out for an extended period of time, American Hockey League call-up Brian Lashoff could be used as a stopgap.
Smith's injury is the latest setback for an already injury depleted Detroit defense corps. Entering the season without Nicklas Lidstrom due to retirement, as well as failing to acquire an impact defender on the unrestricted free agent market, defense was an area of concern for the team.
Then Carlo Colaiacovo, Ian White, Jakub Kindl, Jonathan Ericsson, Kent Huskins, and now Smith, all suffered injuries prior to or during the season.
