The New York Islanders have lifted the suspension of defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky, according to an announcement on the team's twitter account on Thursday afternoon.

The New York Islanders have lifted the suspension of defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky.

Visnovsky has been suspended since Jan. 18 for failing to report to the team.
Prior to the end of the lockout, Visnovsky had expressed interest in remaining in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League for the remainder of the 2013 season. However, the memorandum of understanding between the NHL and KHL prohibited the 36-year-old defenseman from doing so.
A family issue then arose and Visnovksy stated that he would need to take care of it prior to returning to North America and reporting to the Islanders. It has never surfaced what the issue is, but it apparently has been resolved as Visnovsky was due to report to the team on Wednesday.
He has officially been added to the team’s active roster.
This now concludes an extended situation that revolved around Visnovsky seemingly wanting nothing to do with the Islanders. Having been acquired by the team during the 2013 NHL Draft from the Anaheim Ducks, Visnovsky attempted to have the trade voided due to a potential no-trade clause he thought he might have in his contract.
Despite the numerous attempts to avoid wearing an Islanders’ sweater, Visnovksy’s representation has remained consistent that Visnovsky wants to be part of them.
Now, he finally will be.
