Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul returned to on-ice activity on Monday for the first time since fracturing his forearm on Jan. 23. Since taking a Dion Phaneuf slapshot off his arm, Lupul has missed 23 games. The original projection for his return penciled-in a mid-March due date.

On Monday, Lupul took the first step toward that return when he skated with his teammates for the first time since the incident. Lupul’s session reportedly included wrist shots, backhand shots and one-timers being fed by strengthening coach Anthony Bleza. In addition, Lupul engaged in skating drills, as well as skating briefly with members of the fourth line during a full-team practice. After approximately 30 minutes with the team, Lupul left the ice for the day.
Head coach Randy Carlyle stated that the 29-year-old forward had not yet been cleared for contact but the team was considering bringing him along when they travel to Winnipeg for their game against the Jets on Tuesday night.
