With the game on his stick, Kaspars Daugavins decided to try-out for a spot in future NHL All-Star game festivities.
Bruins vs. Senators: Kaspars Daugavins’ crazy shootout move fails
Did it make the shootout look like a joke?
With a move that looked like it belonged in some sort of trick shot competition, the Ottawa Senators forward tried (and failed) one of the more interesting shootout attempts in recent memory. His move (putting the puck under his stick and employing a spin-o-rama at the goal crease) is the kind of thing that will make anti-shootout fans stand up and point excitedly. And I kind of see their point: in a shortened season where points are more valuable than ever, we're deciding games based on joke shots like these.
But then again, it almost worked! I’ll give him credit for that. In the end, the Bruins won the game on the next attempt anyways.
One Bruin seems to agree that the shot kind of makes a mockery of the shootout:
David Krejci on the Daugavins shootout attempt: "I wouldn't like it if someone on my team tried that move."

But his coach said he was fine with it. So let the debate rage!
