Buffalo Sabres forward Tyler Ennis is considered day-to-day after sustaining a hit from Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds on Sunday night, according to interim head coach Ron Rolston via Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald.

The Sabres believed Ennis was hit from behind by Simmonds, but the Flyers forward was not penalized on the play. Ennis was forced to leave the game and was unable to return. Rolston said Ennis did not sustain a concussion on the play but did require stitches. He was unable to practice on Monday.
With Ennis expected to miss Tuesday night's contest against the New York Rangers, forward Jochen Hecht could replace Ennis on the second line. Hect practiced in that spot on Monday.
In addition, it is believed that injured forward Ville Leino is nearing a return. Stating that he had hoped to return on Sunday against the Flyers, Leino rotated with Hecht during Monday's practice as the third man on a line with Steve Ott and Nathan Gerbe.
The Sabres will be holding an optional skate on Tuesday, so line combinations likely won’t be known until pre-game warm-ups.
