Brent Burns, a San Jose Sharks defenseman, is expected to play as a forward on Tuesday night.

San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns is expected to return to the lineup against the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night.

Interestingly enough, it could be as a winger.

Burns has not played since sustaining an injury to his left leg against the Dallas Stars on Feb. 23. On Monday, he returned to practice and head coach Todd McLellan stated that the defenseman was trending towards a return to the lineup in the coming days.

During morning skate on Tuesday, Burns was seen on the third forward line with Scott Gomez and James Sheppard. This was also the case on Monday but because it was an optional skate it was explained that Burns was placed on the line to get more skating time. McLellan denied it was something they'd try in a game.

Following Tuesday’s practice, McLellan and Burns all but confirmed that he will be playing as a forward against the Blues. In addition, he is expected to play some time on defense, likely during the power play, according to Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area.

Burns was actually drafted as a forward but was later converted to defense by Minnesota Wild coach Jacques Lemaire.
