The NHL met with the International Ice Hockey Federation and the Sochi Organizing Committee this week in an attempt to further discussions about involving professional players in the 2014 Olympic Games.

While an agreement has yet to be made, the talks appeared to be productive. Taking place over the last two days, the meetings involved NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly making visits to the hockey venues, Olympic Village and other key infrastructure involved with the event.

In addition, he met with the organizing committee, the IIHF and several IOC representatives.

This development is another step in getting the NHL to allow it’s players to participate in the games. Last month, the NHL met with the NHLPA, IOC and IIHF to discuss the matter and IIHF president Rene Fasel stated during that time that he hoped an agreement could be in place by May.

The Sochi Games are scheduled to begin on Feb. 7, 2014.
