Leafs vs. Jets: Zach Bogosian fights Korbinian Holzer after Evander Kane declines

Bogosian got the book thrown at him for instigating.

USA TODAY Sports

This is apparently one of those instances where helping your teammate is not encouraged.

Toronto defenseman Korbinian Holzer took issue with Evander Kane near the Leafs' net in the first period, and threw down his gloves to fight. However, Kane didn't oblige, leading to the always hilarious situation where Holzer had to hang his head and pick up his equipment while the play was still going on.

That almost happened. Instead, Zach Bogosian came barreling in from the blue line and attacked Holzer just as Holzer was reaching down for his gloves. It clearly caught Holzer off guard and he didn't put up much of a fight.

Bogosian was just defending his teammate but got two minutes for instigating, five minutes for fighting and a 10-minute misconduct. Holzer knew it too, as he immediately started clapping toward Bogosian on the way to the box.
