Predators vs. Blue Jackets: Sergei Bobrovsky takes smelling salts

Desperate to keep their hot streak going, the Blue Jackets ignore concussion protocol in favor of old-timey witchcraft.

USA TODAY Sports

The surprising Columbus Blue Jackets have been one of the NHL's hottest teams over the past few weeks, and a great deal of the credit for their recent successes is due to their goaltender, Sergei Bobrovsky. His stellar play has helped the Blue Jackets move close to the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, so it makes sense that the team would take drastic measures to keep from losing him for any length of time.

Drastic measures like, for example, giving him smelling salts instead of following NHL concussion protocol after he was rattled by a slapshot to the mask.

Here's a GIF from Backhand Shelf of Bobrovsky receiving "medical treatment" on the ice after being shaken up from a slapshot from Nashville's Kevin Klein midway through the second period of Tuesday night's game:

Bobrovsky didn't leave the game, so I'm sure he was just fine.
