Thomas Vanek injury: Sabres star leaves game with upper-body injury

Buffalo’s best player left the game after being struck by the puck.

Abelimages

Thomas Vanek, the leading scorer of the struggling Buffalo Sabres, suffered an upper-body injury in Tuesday night's game against the Montreal Canadiens. The team announced that he would not return to the game during the second intermission.

Vanek suffered his injury after he was struck by the puck on a Buffalo power play. He was in visible pain on the Buffalo bench before limping into the dressing room.

With fourteen goals and seventeen assists, Vanek is the clear offensive leader for the Buffalo Sabres, and they can ill afford to lose him. Buffalo entered Tuesday night’s action second-to-last in the Eastern Conference, so the playoffs may have already been a dim hope for them, but losing a player as important as Vanek would be a major blow to any team.
