The Pittsburgh Penguins have placed defenseman Kris Letang on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury, according to an announcement by the team on Wednesday morning.
Kris Letang goes back to IR, Simon Despres recalled by Penguins
A day after being activated from injured reserve, Kris Letang has returned to the IR with a reported broken toe.

Letang re-aggravated the injury in the Penguins 1-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night. It was his first game back after missing three games due to the injury. While the Penguins have yet to officially specify the issue, Renaud Lavoie of RDS reported earlier on Wednesday that Letang had broken a toe.
Pittsburgh has yet to release a time-table on Letang's return. However, the organization did announce that defenseman Simon Despres has been recalled from the American Hockey League's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Despres had been assigned to the AHL on Tuesday in order to make space on the roster for Letang.
In addition, the team also announced that defenseman Robert Bortuzzo had been assigned to Wilkes-Barre on a conditioning assignment.
Update: Head coach Dan Bylsma announced later on Wednesday that Letang is expected to miss 7-10 days with the injury.
