Ed Jovanovski to have season-ending surgery

The Florida defenseman will have surgery to fix his ailing hip on April 5.

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

With the Florida Panthers in last place in the league, now is as good a time as any for their captain, defenseman Ed Jovanovski, to have surgery that will put an end to his season.

The Florida Panthers announced that Jovanoski’s surgery is scheduled for April 5, and will mean that he will be unable to play for the remainder of the year.

Since being acquired by the Panthers prior to the 11-12 season, Jovanovski’s effectiveness has been limited by injuries. He only played in 66 games in his first season with the club, and has been limited to just six games this year.

Miami Herald reporter George Richards had more details on Jovanovski’s situation:

Tough break for Jovanovski and the Panthers, but there’s no sense in a veteran continuing to put off surgery when the team has effectively been eliminated from playoff contention already.
