Eric Wellwood recalled by Flyers

Eric Wellwood has been recalled by the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Philadelphia Flyers have recalled forward Eric Wellwood from the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, according to an announcement by the team on Tuesday morning.

Wellwood will be eligible to play in the team's game against the New York Rangers on Tuesday night and will participate in the Flyers morning skate at Madison Square Garden.

The speedy forward spent the first four games of the 2013 season with the Flyers and averaged 9:25 of ice-time during that span. Largely playing as the fourth line center, the Flyers decided to loan Wellwood to Adirondack on Jan. 26. In 43 games with the Phantoms this season, Wellwood has registered six goals and six assists for 12 points.

The move was likely motivated by the four-game suspension given to Harry Zolnierczyk for his hit on Mike Lundin during the Flyers' game against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday afternoon.

In addition to Wellwood, the club also has forward Mike Knuble available to fill Zolnierczyk's spot in the starting lineup. Knuble has been a healthy scratch in the team's last two games.
