The Anaheim Ducks have signed captain Ryan Getzlaf to an eight-year contract extension, according to an announcement by the team on Friday afternoon.

The Anaheim Ducks have extended the contract of captain Ryan Getzlaf.

As per club policy, the Ducks did not release the financial terms of the deal. According to Bob McKenzie, the deal is worth $66 million and carries an annual average value of $8.25 million.
Getzlaf was playing in the final year of a five-year, $26.6 million contract that carried an annual average value of $5.3 million against the salary cap. The extension will carry through the 2020-21 season.
General manager Bob Murray stated that the organization was pleased to have Getzlaf locked up long-term, while Getzlaf expressed how thankful he and his family were to remain in Anaheim. Originally chosen with the No. 19 overall selection in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by Anaheim, Getzlaf has played 534 career regular season games with the Ducks. Over that span, he has collected 146 goals and 353 points for 499 points.
