Evgeni Malkin injury: Penguins star held out of overtime as a precaution

Pens coach Dan Bylsma referred to an “upper body injury” for Malkin, who recently returned from a concussion.

USA TODAY Sports

The Penguins might've just won a shootout in Toronto, but news just came down that should make Pens fans more than a little nervous.

Star center Evgeni Malkin didn't play during the overtime period after taking a hit from James van Riemsdyk late in the game. Dan Bylsma had this update afterwards:

Malkin recently returned from another upper body injury that cost him a few games. The Penguins forward went on IR for a concussion in late February and only recently returned to the ice full time. The words “precaution” and “upper body injury” seem to indicate that he might be suffering from similar symptoms, but that’s just purely speculation on my part.

We’ll keep you updated if the Penguins release any specific information on his injury.
