Brooks Laich injury: Capitals forward battling groin issue

Brooks Laich remains out indefinitely after sustaining another groin injury.

USA TODAY Sports

Washington Capitals forward Brooks Laich has missed the majority of the 2013 season due to issues with his groin.

After sitting out the first 28 games of the year with a groin injury, Laich was able to return to the lineup for Washington's March 19 game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. However, after playing in nine games, Laich experienced another groin injury and has missed the team's last three contests.

Laich visited with groin specialist Dr. Michael Brunt on Tuesday and is expected to visit with another doctor. Head coach Adam Oates was unable to confirm whether surgery was a potential avenue being discussed. Oates stated that he hasn’t spoken with general manager George McPhee, the team’s training staff or Laich since Tuesday.

As of Wednesday afternoon, there is no timetable for when Laich might be able to resume regular activity.

In the nine games Laich played this season, he collected a goal and three assists for four points. He averaged 16:32 of total ice-time, which included an average of 2:13 on the penalty kill. The Capitals registered a record of 6-2-1 in those games.
