Lupul sustained the injury in the first period of last Thursday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers when he was sandwiched by Adam Hall and Jay Rosehill. He was clearly dazed after the play and struggled to get back to the bench due to his disorientation.
The Maple Leafs went out of their way to avoid labeling the injury a concussion and stated they were more concerned about whiplash or stiffness in his neck. However, following testing (that apparently took over a week to finalize) Carlyle announced that Lupul suffered a concussion.
Lupul was able to participate in practice with the team for the first time since the injury but has not been cleared for contact (despite Carlyle stating that he feels Lupul has been cleared for contact). The head coach stated that Lupul is close to a return.
