UPDATE: The Penguins have confirmed Malkin's injury is "100 percent not related to sunburn," as was previously reported. Instead, they are calling it an "upper-body injury."
Evgeni Malkin scratched due to ‘upper body injury’
The Penguins have denied that his injury is related to sunburn.

The Penguins are already without Sidney Crosby long-term, and it seems Saturday night they will be missing Evgeni Malkin as well. The reasons for their absences could not be more different.
Crosby is healing from jaw surgery. Malkin is out because of....a bad sunburn?
That’s the theory being thrown around by Penguins beat writers. According to Josh Yohe of the Tribune-Review, Malkin skated this morning but looked fine other than a really bad sunburn. The Penguins are calling it an “upper-body injury,” which makes sense because people usually get sunburns on their upper body. So thanks for that, Pittsburgh.
I don’t really understand how this could’ve happened. This, of course, is not unprecedented in sports. Marty Cordova famously once fell asleep in a tanning bed and missed several day games with the Baltimore Orioles. That’s about the only reasonable scenario I can come up with in Malkin’s case.
