NHL trade deadline: Jason Pominville asked to submit list of eight teams

Buffalo Sabres general manager Darcy Regier requested captain Jason Pominville to submit a list of eight teams he would not be willing to play for.

Buffalo Sabres captain Jason Pominville has been asked to submit a list of eight teams he would not be willing to play for, according to Renaud Lavoie of RDS on Tuesday night.

The request was submitted to Pominville by general manager Darcy Regier, who reportedly explained that he needed to see what was available on the trade market. Pominville is currently playing in the fourth year of a five-year, $26.5 million contract that carries an annual average value of $5.3 million against the salary cap. His contract contains a no-movement clause and a modified no-trade clause, which allows him to identify eight teams he won’t accept a trade to.

Buffalo is believed to be looking to reshape its roster by trading away its top-end players. This has led to speculation about the availability of Pominville, Thomas Vanek and Ryan Miller.

On Monday night, the Sabres traded defenseman Robyn Regehr to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for two second-round draft picks.

The NHL trade deadline is 3 p.m. ET Wednesday.
