Make jokes about the Southleast Southeast Division all you want, but there’s no question the division hosts a few heated rivalries.
Lightning vs. Hurricanes: B.J. Crombeen cross-checks Tim Gleason
Gleason was injured after getting double-teamed.
That being said, the Lightning-Hurricanes rivalry just boiled over dangerously. Pierre-Cedric Labrie took issue with the way Tim Gleason jostled him behind the Canes net, and started to shove Gleason. That was fine.
What B.J. Crombeen did was not fine.
I don't know how you look at that and don't call it a cheap shot. It's just a dirty play by Crombeen to catch Gleason defenseless like that and cross-check him right in the spine. Gleason lay on the ice for a long amount of time before barely skating off with some help from his teammates. Crombeen didn't receive any penalty for the play, but you have to wonder if Brendan Shanahan will give him a call.
