Winnipeg Jets defenseman Zach Redmond has been recalled from the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Jets announced Monday.
Zach Redmond injury: Jets recall defenseman after AHL conditioning stint
For a time, it appeared as though Zach Redmond’s season -- and potentially his career -- was over. On Monday, those concerns were proven wrong as the Jets announced they had recalled the 24-year-old from the AHL.

Redmond was assigned to the St. John’s IceCaps last Wednesday on a conditioning assignment. The 24-year-old defenseman sustained a severe injury when his femoral artery was lacerated during a practice on Feb. 21. It was widely speculated that Redmond might not be able to play again, let alone return this season.
However, he began rehabilitation in Michigan before returning to Winnipeg to take part in a training program. He was able to return to on-ice work at the beginning of April and spent three days skating, as well as two days working on his upper body in the gym.
With his strength and conditioning to a satisfactory level, the organization planned to send Redmond to St. John’s for two of the team’s final three games. He earned two assists over that span.
Entering the final week of the regular season, Winnipeg sits three points back of the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. With three games remaining, it’s unclear to what extent the Jets plan to use Redmond, if at all. Regardless, he will be available, which in itself is a wonderful development.
