Staal brothers unite: Jared Staal recalled by Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes have recalled the youngest Staal brother, which opens the possibility of an all-brother line on Thursday night.

The Carolina Hurricanes have recalled forward Jared Staal from the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, according to an announcement by the Hurricanes on Wednesday afternoon.

Jared is the younger brother of Hurricanes forwards Eric and Jordan Staal.

The youngest Staal has recorded seven points (four goals and three assists) in 52 games with Charlotte this season. Originally chosen with the No. 49 overall selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Phoenix Coyotes, Staal was acquired by Carolina in May of 2010 in exchange for a fifth-round draft selection in the 2010 NHL Draft.

He has yet to make his NHL debut.

In 119 games in the AHL, the 22-year-old has accumulated 18 points (eight goals, 10 assists) and 49 penalty minutes. Staal is expected to be in the lineup against the New York Rangers on Thursday night. It remains to be seen whether he will play on a line with his brothers.

Had Rangers defenseman Marc Staal been healthy, all four Staal brothers would have been able to play in the contest. Unfortunately, Marc is unavailable due to the eye injury he sustained earlier this season.
