Tim Leiweke has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment, according to an announcement by Chairman Larry Tanenbaum on Friday afternoon.

Tim Leiweke has been named the CEO of MLSE. He will begin on June 30, 2013.

Leiweke will begin his responsibilities effective June 30, 2013.
The desire of MLSE to hire Leiweke had been speculated for some time. It was believed the company was looking to hire a CEO with a similar skill set as Leiweke, according to John Shannon of Sportsnet. Instead, they were able to hire the real thing.
Leiweke was previously employed as the CEO of Anschutz Entertainment Group, which owns the Los Angeles Galaxy, Los Angeles Kings and has a stake in the Los Angeles Lakers, the Staples Center, the Home Depot Center, the L.A. Live entertainment complex and several other venues around the world.
Prior to his work with AEG, Leiweke had operated as the CEO of U.S. Skiing and spent time as an executive with the Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves and the St. Louis Steamers of the Major Indoor Soccer League.
As CEO of MLSE, Leiweke will lead the management team that controls the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto Marlies, Toronto FC, Air Canada Centre and several other business entities.
