NHL playoffs 2013: Derek Dorsett, Marc Staal hope to return during postseason

Derek Dorsett and Marc Staal are both hopeful to return sometime during the playoffs.

USA TODAY Sports

New York Rangers forward Derek Dorsett has not been cleared for contact and will not be ready for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal against the Washington Capitals on Thursday night, according to multiple reports on Monday morning.

Dorsett underwent a CT scan but still was not cleared. However, this is not considered a setback and he is still apparently on schedule. He is expected to meet with doctors in the near future and is hopeful he will return sometime during the Quarterfinal.

He originally fractured his clavicle while playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 7 and has yet to make his debut for the Rangers.

In addition, Rangers defenseman Marc Staal updated his status on Monday morning. Staal sustained facial fractures after being hit in the face by a deflected shot on March 5. Staal has been skating for a few weeks. However, he stated on Monday that he is still experiencing blurred vision. He is hopeful that he will be able to participate in this year's playoffs.

A timeline for his return has not been provided.
