With the NHL Trade Deadline day going just about as many expected, with little action to speak of after a flurry of trades on Tuesday, we now turn to teams shooting for the moon in crazy trade speculation.
NHL trade deadline: New York Islanders targeting Brandon Saad?
The Islanders have interest in a talented young forward but it seems the Blackhawks aren’t interested in giving him up.
According to Arthur Staple of Newsday, the Islanders are said to be targeting Chicago Blackhawks center Brandon Saad as they prepare for a big push for the playoffs. A trade for Saad wouldn't just be about this season, however, as the Islanders continue to look to build for the future.
Source says #Isles are trying to land Hawks rookie Brandon Saad. Cost is high, clearly, but Snow is interested.

Of course Islanders GM Garth Snow is interested; every single team across the NHL would love to add a talented, young center -- who can also play winger -- like Saad. Staples notes that such a trade would be a “long shot,” with Craig Custance of ESPN is stating that the Blackhawks won’t even consider trading the young forward -- which is the only logical response to such trade speculation.
Drafted in the second round in 2011, Saad has been a key part of the Blackhawks’ success this season with 7 goals and 20 points in 34 games with a plus-12 rating.
The New York Islanders would certainly love to acquire such a player but it seems that, like many other hopes and dreams on deadline day, this one won't get much further than a phone call.
