Blues vs. Kings Game 1 update: Jonathan Quick keeps it close through two periods

Jaden Schwartz is probably tired of seeing Jonathan Quick right now.

The Los Angeles Kings and St. Louis Blues settled into a more even match in the second period of Game 1, but the goaltenders kept the period scoreless.

Each team had chances that got the crowd on its feet, Justin Williams initiating a 3-on-2 that goaltender Brian Elliott and a growing pile of Blues bodies kept from ending in a goal.

At the other end, Kings goalie Jonathan Quick made a series of saves on multiple Blues barrages. Unable to knock rebounds past Quick, the Blues took to trying to pick corners, but Quick left David Backes only room enough to hit the crossbar.

Ah, but Quick frustrated no one more than Jaden Schwartz, who he robbed on consecutive rebounds on two separate occasions. This was the second one:

St. Louis outshot Los Angeles 10-7 in the period, a much closer affair than the first, where the Blues dominated for most of 20 minutes.

With just one goal separating them and the previously struggling Quick channeling his 2012 playoff form, it’s anyone’s game as they head to the third period.
