Red Wings vs. Avalanche: Datsyuk ends rivalry with overtime winner
It was the last regular season game between the two as conference rivals.

It’s only fitting that one of hockey’s greatest rivalries ended with a goal from one of hockey’s greatest players.
In the final regular season meeting between the Colorado Avalanche and the Detroit Red Wings as conference rivals (the two will be in different conferences after next season's realignment), Pavel Datsyuk scored the game-winning goal in overtime with less than 30 seconds left. Henrik Zetterberg twisted the puck behind him as Datsyuk drove to the net, and the Red Wings' star center pushed the rebound past Jean-Sebastien Giguere to end the game.
As you can tell from the picture below, breaking up the game-winning play should’ve been simple.

Instead, the Avs head home with a bitter taste in their mouths after losing the final game of a great rivalry.
