The Philadelphia Flyers have extended the contract of goaltender Steve Mason, according to the team on Monday afternoon.
Steve Mason signs one-year extension with Flyers
Steve Mason has signed a one-year extension with the Flyers.

Mason has agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million extension, according to Anthony SanFilippo of Flyers Inside Out. He was playing in the final year of a two-year, $5.8 million contract that carried an average annual value of $2.9 million. Mason would have become a restricted free agent following the 2013 season.
The 24-year-old goaltender views his opportunity in Philadelphia as a way to get his career back on track. After a stellar season in 2009, which saw him named rookie of the year and nominated as a Vezina Trophy finalist, Mason’s play has dropped off.
Flyers goaltending coach Jeff Reese is apparently an advocate of Mason's and believes he can help the goaltender return to his Vezina finalist form. In 13 appearances with the Blue Jackets this season, Mason compiled a 3-6-1 record with an .899 save percentage and 2.95 goals against average.
Mason has stated that his goal is to become the No. 1 goaltender with the Flyers next season.
