Coyotes vs. Canucks: Mike Smith goes after Alexandre Burrows
The Coyotes’ netminder is tired of getting run into.
Mike Smith and the Vancouver Canucks do not get along well, mainly due to Vancouver's tendency to play rough with the Phoenix netminder. That didn't change at all on Monday.
Alexandre Burrows, Vancouver's resident pest, decided to make his home in Mike Smith's crease during the second period. Burrows obstructed Smith's vision in every way imaginable while the Canucks were on a power play, to the point that Smith forgot about keeping the puck out of the net and just planted Burrows flat on his back. Smith then attacked Burrows while the puck snuck over the goal line, but the goal was waved off.
With that incident still fresh in the Coyotes' mind, Burrows got right back in Smith's grill on what looked to be a Henrik Sedin goal a few minutes later. Predictably, mayhem ensued as the Coyotes jumped any blue jersey that moved. Henrik's goal was later waved off as well, but the message has been sent: don't mess with Smith's crease.
