The Washington Capitals had a rough start to Game 5, but a couple of key injuries for New York might make the next two periods a bit easier for them.
Rangers vs. Capitals Game 5 update: New York strikes early
Brian Boyle’s goal has the Rangers up 1-0 after one period.
The Rangers struck quickly, as Derick Brassard dished the puck to Brian Boyle in front of the net for a goal just 53 seconds into the game.
It was Brassard’s fifth assist of the series, which is amazing because he is Derick Brassard.
The rest of the period didn't go so well for the Rangers. Jason Chimera was an absolute wrecking ball. He first checked Ryane Clowe hard into the boards, earning him a two-minute minor for boarding. But Clowe skated slowly to the Rangers bench and clearly looked dazed. He eventually left for the locker room.
Chimera then honed in on Anton Stralman with this huge hit, which looked a tad bit high.
At any rate, that also sent Stralman to the locker room. It’ll be up to the rest of the Rangers to make up for the absence of two of their top players as they defend a 1-0 lead in the second period.
