Kings vs. Blues Game 5 update: Doughty gives the Kings an early lead

The Blues are down, 1-0, after one period and they briefly missed their top defenseman.

As far as first periods go, the Blues just had a pretty ugly first 20 minutes of hockey. Facing elimination, St. Louis trails Los Angeles, 1-0, after one period.

After the two squads tested each other out a bit, Drew Doughty got the Kings on the board at 12:37 in the first. Colin Fraser carried the puck in and left a drop pass for Doughty, who befuddled Brian Elliott with a sick wrist shot.

See what I mean? Sick.

Things got worse for St. Louis. Trevor Lewis hit Alex Pietrangelo in the offensive zone with 4:49 left in the period, and that was the last anyone saw of him in the first period. The Blues can only hope he returns, because they're already struggling offensively. St. Louis has missed 11 shots so far.
