The Pittsburgh Penguins used their lethal power play to extend their lead in Game 1 of an Eastern Conference semifinal series. They led the Ottawa Senators 3-1 at the second intermission after Chris Kunitz scored at 18:33.
Penguins vs. Senators Game 1 update: Chris Kunitz doubles Pittsburgh’s lead
The Penguins added a late power play goal, while Cory Conacher and Brooks Orpik continued their David vs. Goliath battle.

The Senators spent much of the period pushing for an equalizer, but failed to convert on their only power play. When Cory Conacher was penalized for holding Kunitz's stick with 2:03 left in the period, the Penguins special teams crew went to work.
Kunitz's goal came on a rebound after Jarome Iginla's shot had the puck bouncing around Craig Anderson's crease, with both Penguins forwards allowed unchecked below the Senators defense:
That wasn't the most exciting crease work of the period, however. The 5'8 Conacher got into a lengthy joust with 6'2 Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik that began in the crease behind Penguins goalie Tomas Vokoun and continued out into the slot:
Orpik was making his presence known all over the Penguins zone, including this hit on Eric Gryba that left both hitting the deck:
That hit was costly for the Senators. Gryba left the game with an upper body injury and the Senators said he would not return.
