Kings vs. Blues Game 1 update: Slava Voynov cannot be stopped

Slava Voynov’s two shots have given L.A. a 2-0 lead.

Two shots by Slava Voynov are the difference so far in Game 1, as the Kings took a 2-0 lead into the second intermission. It's the first time the Kings have had a two-goal lead so far this postseason. It's also the first time the Sharks have trailed by two goals.

For most of the period, the two teams were content with trading meager scoring chances and hitting each other. Otherwise, the start of the period devoid of excitement.

Then Andrew Desjardins nearly scored on a sweet dangle and the game started to open up.

The Kings were called for a hooking penalty at 9:09 into the frame, but managed to kill it off without much trouble. After some hard forechecking by Dustin Brown, Voynov's shot from the blueline deflected off Mike Richards' skate and into the Sharks' net.

The period ended with a bit of nastiness. Raffi Torres was called for charging for a hit on Jarret Stoll and Drew Doughty was injured by a hit from Patrick Marleau. It remains to be seen if Doughty will return to the game.
