Kings vs. Sharks Game 1 recap: Jonathan Quick shuts out San Jose

Los Angeles took the first game in the series with a 2-0 win over San Jose.

In the battle between Vezina Trophy contender and Conn Smythe winner, the playoff maestro emerged victorious.

Jonathan Quick continued his playoff dominance, shutting out the San Jose Sharks for a 2-0 win in Game 1. Los Angeles got two goals on Antti Niemi in the first couple of frames and merely had to hang on in the third.

They very nearly added to their lead in the first minute. If Scott Hannan hadn't gotten to this loose puck the Sharks could've been down three goals to none.

The Sharks gave the Kings everything they had in the third period. Quick was tested from virtually every angle as the Sharks outshot the Kings 16-4 in the final frame. He was up to the task.

His recent performances bring back memories of the Kings’ Cup run last year.

Who wins the goaltender battle?

Quick. Niemi was great when he had to be, but Quick’s performance was just downright unfair.

Will the Sharks young stars continue to produce?

Logan Couture and Joe Pavelski each had two shots on goal, but didn't produce anything. It's not like they were alone. Scott Gomez had four shots. Matt Irwin had six. Everyone was pitching in, but Jonathan Quick could not be beaten.

What kind of minutes will Drew Doughty play?

His minutes actually decreased to 23:15, but that still led the team. It seemed like Daryl Sutter spread his minutes across the blueline evenly.
