Blackhawks vs. Red Wings Game 3 recap: Detroit frustrates Chicago, wins 3-1

The Red Wings beat the Blackhawks 3-1 to take a 2-1 lead in the series.

The third period of Game 3 between the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings began with the Blackhawks facing a 2-0 deficit, but it didn't take long for Patrick Kane to score and cut the lead in half:

Just minutes later, the Blackhawks thought they had tied it on this sequence:

But the goal was waved off because Andrew Shaw's actions in this crease were deemed "interference."

Things went from bad to worse for the Hawks when Pavel Datsyuk scored with a laser to give the Wings a 3-1 lead:

The Blackhawks turned up the heat late, pulling their goalie and piling up shots, but Jimmy Howard stood strong and the Red Wings held on to their lead. The Wings now lead the series 2-1.

Let’s take a look at the three big questions we were tracking in the game:

Will Jonathan Toews wake up?

He had seven shots, the most on the Blackhawks, but none of them mattered.

Can either team score on the power play?

Despite plentiful opportunities for both teams, nobody found any success with the man-advantage in Game 3.

Can the Wings build on their confidence from Game 2?

The Red Wings looked confident and poised all night long, while the Blackhawks looked frustrated, wild, and immature. They’ll need to regain their composure and their scoring touch if they want to get back in this series.

Game 4 is on Thursday in Detroit.
