Penguins vs. Senators Game 5 update: Pittsburgh piles on the scores

The Pens scored three times in the second to secure a 4-1 lead after two.

Ottawa is clinging to the edge of the elimination cliff by the tips of their fingers, trailing Pittsburgh 4-1 after two periods in Game 5. The Penguins trail in shots and hits after two but still are one period away from advancing.

Pittsburgh pressed a little harder as the second wore on, and they eventually widened their lead seven minutes in. The record books will say that James Neal scored on a wrist shot, but in reality nobody scored.

Yeah. If that doesn't spell doom for the Senators' season, I don't know what will. Even gifts from Pittsburgh blew up on the Senators in the second. Evgeni Malkin was sent to the box for holding while the Pens were on a power play, seemingly letting Ottawa off the hook. And then Kris Letang scored on the four on four.

Jason Spezza then made his first real impact in the series with a beautiful pass to Milan Michalek, and for a minute it looked like Ottawa had some momentum. But Malkin stole it right back with under a minute remaining in the period to restore Pittsburgh's three-goal lead.
