Sidney Crosby will be back in a traditional helmet for the Eastern Conference finals after being cleared by doctors to play without the plastic jaw protector he has worn since returning from a broken jaw.

Sidney Crosby was cleared to practice in a traditional helmet on Sunday and will play without a facemask in the Eastern Conference finals.

Crosby practiced with a traditional helmet on Sunday and will continue to practice with it. He had said previously that it would take a few practices for him to re-adjust to playing without the jaw guard and with no start date set for the Eastern Conference finals yet, Crosby will get the handful of practices that he wanted.
Crosby was sidelined for the final 12 games of the regular season with the broken jaw and he also missed the Penguins' first playoff game. He wore a large facemask in the first round series before changing to a smaller one in the second round. Now Crosby will play without one, which he says makes it easier to breathe and see the ice.
The facemask hasn’t slowed Crosby in the slightest, though. The center has seven goals and eight assists in 10 playoff games since returning from his broken jaw.
