Blackhawks vs. Red Wings Game 6 update: Late Patrick Eaves goal evens things up

We’re tied at 1-1 after the first period.

It took awhile to get going, but a late-period surge by the Detroit Red Wings has them level at 1-1 with the Chicago Blackhawks after one period in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinal series.

The first few minutes played out exactly how Game 5 finished: all Chicago, all the time. The Blackhawks dominated possession, and it appeared the completeness of their game had carried over into Game 6. Chicago outshot the Wings heavily as the period wore on, and Detroit seemed hesitant to play aggressively. How can you blame them? When they made a mistake, Marian Hossa capitalized on the power play just 3:53 into the period.

The tide began to turn when Jonathan Toews was sent off for interfering with Jimmy Howard. Detroit's power play, while failing to score a goal, looked lively. Suddenly, Detroit was getting chances like this 1-on-5 chance from Pavel Datsyuk.

The shift in momentum culminated in a Patrick Eaves goal with minutes left in the period, and we have a tie game headed into the second.
