Kings vs. Sharks Game 7 update: Nothing is happening

The Sharks and Kings are taking zero risks in Game 7.

Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY

If you're a fan of high-scoring hockey games, Game 7 between the Sharks and Kings isn't for you. But don't change the channel, because the scoreless first period in Los Angeles proved the rest of the game will be memorable.

After one period, it’s hard to say which team holds an advantage. The shots are a dismal 5-3 in favor of the Sharks, but San Jose blocked eight shots. In fact, most of the scoring chances either came harmlessly from distance or looked like this.

That is literally the only highlight of the frame.

What the period lacked in scoring, it made up for in pure excitement. The two clubs were cautious, yes, but they both set out to establish a physical presence. In fact, there were four times as many hits as shots in the first period. As time wore on, the game started to open up a bit. Expect an equally physical second period as the two teams tire and start to capitalize on mistakes.
