Stanley Cup Playoffs 2013, Ducks vs. Red Wings Game 5: Time, TV schedule and more

The Anaheim Ducks and Detroit Red Wings return to Anaheim for Game 5 of the Western Conference Quarterfinal on Wednesday night with the series tied at two games apiece.

The Anaheim Ducks will attempt to establish their third lead in the Western Conference Quarterfinal when they host the Detroit Red Wings in Game 5 on Wednesday night.

Home-ice advantage has been a non-factor in this matchup, as each team has managed to steal a game on the road. This isn’t all that surprising, as the road team won each of the three regular season meetings between the two clubs.

Despite Detroit’s best efforts, the Ducks have controlled the lead throughout this four-game set. The Red Wings have knotted the series on two separate occasions and will attempt to take their first lead with a win on Wednesday night.

Will Anaheim continue producing in the third period?

Of the Ducks’ 13 goals scored in the series, nine have come in the third period. By most accounts, teams like to finish games strong and it’s safe to safe that’s what Anaheim is doing. While they’ve dropped two games, both losses have come in overtime. Will the Ducks’ third period production have any outcome on the result of the game?

If Detroit wins, will overtime be required?

So far, it has. In Game 2, the Red Wings allowed three goals in the third but ultimately scored the game-winner in the extra frame. In Game 4, Detroit scored to goals before knotting the series by aide of an extra period. If the team can earn their first lead of the series, will it come by way of an overtime finish?

Will special teams continue to be a factor?

The team who has won the special teams battle has gone onto win each contest. In Game 1, Anaheim converted on 2-of-4 chances (Detroit was 1-4), while Detroit scored on 3-6 in Game 2 (Anaheim was 1-5) and the Ducks were 2-6 in Game 3 (Red Wings were 0-6). Game 4 was the only contest that neither team converted on a man advantage.
