Brian Gionta will undergo surgery to repair a torn left bicep, which will rule him out for the remainder of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Montreal Canadiens confirmed that he will have the operation on Wednesday.

Already on the brink of elimination, Montreal was dealt another blow when it was revealed that Brian Gionta will miss the rest of the playoffs.

Montreal is on the brink of elimination after giving up two third-period goals to the Ottawa Senators in Game 4 and then losing in overtime to fall behind 3-1 in the series.
The Canadiens played Game 2 without Gionta, who was sidelined with an undisclosed injury, but the 34-year-old returned for Game 3. Gionta’s return only lasted one game, though, as his bicep injury kept him out of Game 4 and will now end his postseason.
Montreal could turn to either Jeff Halpern or Gabriel Dumont to replace Gionta, but regardless of who steps in, the Canadiens will miss Gionta's offensive production and physicality. He scored 14 goals and added 12 assists in 48 games during the regular season.
Gionta is not the Canadiens' only injury, either. Ryan White missed Game 4 with a hurt shoulder, and his status for Game 5 is up in the air.
