The Los Angeles Kings mounted some additional shots against Corey Crawford, but the Chicago Blackhawks finally scored on Jonathan Quick to take a 2-1 lead late in the second period of Game 1 in the Western Conference Final.

After being outshot by the Hawks, 17-2, in the first period yet emerging with that period’s only goal, the Kings kept the shot scale much closer in the second. Still, the Hawks evened the score and took the lead with two goals in a 3:53 span.
The key was traffic in front of Quick. First, defenseman Johnny Oduya led a rush into the Kings' zone as Patrick Sharp crashed the net. Oduya's shot bounced off Quick's pad and right to Sharp, who placed the rebound just beyond the reach of the acrobatic Kings goalie.
Kings defenseman Drew Doughty was caught directing traffic rather than covering Sharp on the play:
Less than four minutes later, Marian Hossa demonstrated another way to beat Quick — with a lethal deflection of a Duncan Keith shot from the point:
The Hawks outshot the Kings, 14-12, in the second period, a much closer margin but with a much better result for Chicago as the teams headed to the third period.
