Alain Vigneault is signing on to be the New York Rangers next head coach, according to New York Daily News reporter Pat Leonard. Vigneault will replace John Tortorella, whose five-year reign in New York came to an end after the Rangers were eliminated by the Boston Bruins in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Rangers have their new bench boss in Alain Vigneault.
Vigneault was fired by the Vancouver Canucks last month after his team lost in the first round of the playoffs. That ended a seven-year run in Vancouver, where he twice won the Presidents' Trophy, advanced to the Stanley Cup Final in 2011 and won the Jack Adams Award in 2007. Vigneault is also the Canucks' all-time leader with 313 career wins.
The Dallas Stars were among a handful of teams who showed interest in Vigneault once he was fired by the Canucks, but he removed himself from consideration for that post earlier this week after a meeting with New York general manager Glen Sather -- fueling speculation he would get the Rangers job.
The Rangers were also reportedly interested in Lindy Ruff and they interviewed Mark Messier for their head coaching job, but appear to have settled on Vigneault.
