The International Ice Hockey Federation formally announced on Thursday that Montreal and Toronto will co-host the 2015 and 2017 World Junior Championships.

The IIHF formally announced that Montreal and Toronto will co-host the 2015 and 2017 World Junior Championships.

Under the terms of the agreement, both cities will host preliminary round games at each event. Toronto will host the medal round of the 2015 event, while Montreal will do so at the 2017 event. Team Canada will compete in their preliminary round games in Montreal in 2015 and Toronto in 2017.
Initial discussions about the concept were presented by Hockey Canada to both cities several months ago. The organization of the events will be spearheaded by Hockey Canada, Hockey Quebec, the Ontario Hockey Federation, the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Evenko, and Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment.
In addition, the Quebec government will contribute $2 million to the tournament.
