The San Jose Sharks have come to terms on a contract extension with forward Raffi Torres, the team announced on Thursday morning.

Raffi Torres has agreed to a contract extension with the San Jose Sharks.

The two sides have agreed to a three-year extension that will pay Torres $6 million and count for $2 million annually against the salary cap, according to Elliotte Friedman of CBC. Torres finished the final year of a two-year, $3.5 million contract that carried an annual average value of $1.75 million against the salary cap. He was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
San Jose acquired Torres on April 3 via trade with the Phoenix Coyotes. In exchange for Torres, Phoenix received a third-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, which will be the No. 62 overall selection.
In 11 regular season games with the Sharks, Torres collected six points (two goals, four assists). In five postseason games, the forward added a game-winning goal. However, Torres ended the 2013 season the same way he started it, side-lined with a suspension incurred in a playoff game.
In total, Torres produced seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points in 39 regular season games in 2013.
