Calgary flood ‘submerges’ portions of Saddledome

The Scotiabank Saddledome has been partially submerged due to heavy rains and flooding in Calgary.

USA TODAY Sports

Heavy rains and flooding in Calgary have begun to fill the Scotiabank Saddledome, according to Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun on Friday afternoon.

The weather has forced several communities in Calgary to evacuate due to severe flooding. According to Francis, the Saddledome has taken on so much water that the first 10 rows of the arena are submerged, as are the dressing rooms. Francis also reports that the jumbotron, the control room and all equipment inside of the arena has been destroyed by the water.

The complete extent of the damage is not fully known at this time.

Francis states the team already had plans to announce plans for a new building. He believes this damage will now play a role in those discussions.
